Terms of Service

Curator - FRC AI Assistant Last updated: September 24, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Curator ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. Curator is operated as a fan-made, community tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to FIRST® or FIRST Robotics Competition.

2. Description of Service

Curator is an AI-powered assistant designed to help FRC teams find information from official game manuals, team updates, team reference material, awards documentation, and related FIRST Robotics Competition resources. The Service uses large language models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), live web search when needed or when you enable Deep search, and The Blue Alliance for certain live team/event context to provide answers grounded in uploaded documents and current competition data.

The Service also includes:

  • A support channel for bug reports, account/privacy questions, and feature requests
  • Operational monitoring tools including error/performance telemetry and cookie-free performance analytics to detect errors, measure performance, and diagnose failures. Browser Session Replay is disabled by default and, if enabled for debugging, masks text and blocks media.
  • Optional response feedback controls that let users flag helpful or unhelpful answers, bad citations, or missed sources for quality review
  • A public blog where Curator admins may publish product updates, release notes, and operator announcements. Published blog posts may show the author's preferred name when available.
  • An installable web app (PWA) that may be added to your device home screen. Installed/offline behavior is limited to a small offline fallback cache and is subject to browser support and the limits described in the Privacy Policy.
  • Public page notifications to participating search engines via IndexNow when indexable public URLs are added, updated, or removed; news/blog URLs are not submitted for search indexing
  • Personal projects, which let signed-in users organize saved chats into named collections. Project chats may use hidden, AI-generated context summaries derived only from chats in that project to keep future project chats focused.

3. No Warranty - AI Limitations

The AI can be wrong. Responses are generated by a language model and may contain inaccuracies, hallucinations, or outdated information. Always verify critical rules and decisions against the official FIRST documentation at firstinspires.org. Do not rely solely on Curator for competition-critical decisions such as robot design legality, event procedures, or rule interpretations.

Curator uses OpenRouter to access AI models, including free-tier options. Depending on the selected provider and model, prompts and outputs may be logged, retained, or used to improve or train provider systems under that provider's own terms. Do not submit secrets or highly sensitive information.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the API
  • Upload content you do not have rights to (document uploads are admin-only)
  • Impersonate FIRST, its partners, or any event officials
  • Attempt to circumvent authentication, rate limiting, or moderation systems
  • Submit obscene, abusive, harassing, threatening, or otherwise inappropriate content, including profanity or vulgar language intended to target other people or misuse the Service
  • Post or submit content that is hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or violent
  • Submit sensitive credentials, secrets, or other highly confidential data through chat messages, shared chats, or support requests unless you are authorized to disclose that information and accept the associated risk
  • Publish or share chat links containing private, confidential, or sensitive information unless you are authorized to disclose that information
  • Use Curator to design, build, prompt, train, fine-tune, deploy, evaluate, or operate an AI assistant or model intended to replicate Curator or provide a similar FRC knowledge or chat service for another team or organization

The Service uses automated moderation to detect violations of these rules. Messages flagged by automated systems may be reviewed by admins. Repeated or severe violations may result in account suspension or termination.

5. User Accounts

You may use the Service as a guest, with no age requirement and no account required. Guest chatting is limited to a recurring daily number of messages that resets on a rolling 24-hour basis - once you hit it you can keep chatting for free as soon as it resets, with no obligation to ever create an account. Guest conversations are saved to our servers during your session and transferred to your account if you sign in (see Privacy Policy §2a and §6 for details). A guest_session_id cookie is used to link your browser to your guest conversations. Creating an account via Google or Apple sign-in is optional: it raises your daily message limit and is required only for persisting conversation history across devices, saving account-level defaults such as your preferred name, optional team number, preferred chat style, and accepted-terms status, creating projects, and using public chat sharing.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We show an age-confirmation step before any sign-in attempt, in compliance with COPPA (see Privacy Policy §9). If you are under 13, you may still use the Service as a guest, but you may not create an account.

If you choose to make a chat public, anyone with that link may view the conversation until you disable sharing or delete the chat. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for any names, chat content, or other information you choose to place in projects or share publicly.

You may delete your account from Settings. Account deletion removes your account, saved chats, projects, and account settings; limited support, operational, moderation, or audit records may be retained in redacted form where needed for security, accountability, abuse prevention, or legal compliance as described in the Privacy Policy. If you signed in with Apple, deleting your Apple ID or revoking Curator's Sign in with Apple access from your Apple ID settings also triggers account deletion or sign-in unlinking on our end, as described in the Privacy Policy §6.

6. Intellectual Property

  • FIRST®, FIRST Robotics Competition®, and FRC® are registered trademarks of FIRST.
  • Game manuals and team updates are the property of FIRST and are used here solely for informational, non-commercial purposes under fair use.
  • Curator's source code and original UI are owned by the operator.

7. Privacy and Data

Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you consent to the necessary cookies and operational processing described there.

Key points:

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not share your personal information with third parties for advertising purposes.
  • Curator does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and does not request Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission.
  • Analytics (Google Analytics) are only activated on the website if you explicitly allow them through the cookie consent banner, and are configured to block cross-context signal sharing and ad personalization. You may change this choice at any time from the cookie preferences control in Settings. The Curator iOS and Android apps never load Google Analytics and do not show a cookie consent prompt.
  • Sentry is used for error monitoring and performance tracing. Session Replay is disabled by default and, if enabled for debugging, masks text and blocks media. Sentry processes data on our behalf and does not sell or share it.
  • Admin actions and admin transcript views may be logged for security, accountability, and abuse investigation.
  • Chat messages are sent to OpenRouter for AI processing. Depending on the model selected, upstream providers may retain prompt and response data under their own terms.

8. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the Service at any time, for any reason, without notice. Suspensions may be applied to the email address used for sign-in. We may use both manual review and automated moderation signals to identify content that requires admin review or account action.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Curator and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to damages arising from AI inaccuracies, data loss, or service interruptions.

You are solely responsible for your own conduct and for any content you submit, share, or make public through the Service, including chat messages, shared chat links, and content within projects. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Curator and its operators from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. The "Last updated" date at the top of this document will reflect any changes.
